Terraria 1.4.5.7 Is Out: 30+ New Items, Major Balance Changes and Crossplay Next
Terraria 1.4.5.7 is now available on PC, and calling it a simple hotfix does not really do it justice. Re-Logic has released one of the largest post-launch patches in Terraria's history, with more than 30 new items, major reworks for magic weapons and yoyos, boss adjustments, quality-of-life improvements and a long list of fixes.
Re-Logic itself had already described 1.4.5.7 during development as potentially the largest "hotfix" type update in Terraria's history. After several months of work, the patch is intended to bring the Bigger & Boulder update much closer to its final state before the studio moves its attention toward one of the game's most anticipated features: crossplay.
Terraria 1.4.5.7 is available on PC first
Re-Logic announced the release of Terraria 1.4.5.7 on PC on August 19, 2026. The studio describes it as the latest and potentially final hotfix for the Bigger & Boulder update, unless critical issues require another patch.
The release is currently slightly unusual because Re-Logic originally intended to launch 1.4.5.7 simultaneously across PC, console and mobile. With Gamescom approaching, the developers instead decided to release the finished PC build while the console and mobile versions move through their respective submission and approval processes.
Platform status: 1.4.5.7 is available on PC. Console and mobile versions are expected to follow once their submissions have been approved.
More than 30 new items in a "hotfix"
The scale of 1.4.5.7 becomes obvious as soon as you look beyond the version number. More than 30 new items have been added alongside the balance changes, including new weapons and accessories designed to fill progression gaps and support different character builds.
Among the additions are several new magic weapons, slings and combat accessories. Gem Staves have also been redesigned so that the different gems provide distinct effects, while matching a Gem Staff with the corresponding Gem Robe can further improve its effectiveness.
30+ new items
New weapons, accessories and progression options have been added throughout the game.
Existing gear reworked
Many older weapons and accessories receive new statistics, effects or functionality.
Progression adjusted
Several item families have been rebalanced to provide smoother progression between bosses and difficulty tiers.
Magic builds receive one of their biggest balance passes in years
Magic gameplay is one of the areas receiving the most substantial changes. Mana regeneration has been redesigned, including the removal of the traditional regeneration delay.
Players can now regenerate mana while attacking, although at a heavily reduced rate. Standing still significantly improves regeneration, while low mana levels can also increase the recovery rate.
Mana Stars have become more useful offensively as well. Collecting one not only restores mana but also provides a temporary Mana Surge damage bonus. Super Mana Potions have also been adjusted, along with their recipe and restored mana value.
The objective is clear: magic builds should spend less time completely interrupting combat while waiting for mana to return, while still rewarding players who actively manage their resources.
Yoyos finally get a major progression overhaul
Yoyos have also received a substantial pass. Re-Logic had previously acknowledged that their progression could feel inconsistent, with several upgrades appearing close together followed by long periods without meaningful alternatives.
Version 1.4.5.7 addresses this through changes to damage, availability and individual weapon behaviour. The goal is to make yoyos feel like a more coherent weapon path throughout a complete playthrough rather than a collection of isolated weapons with uneven progression.
Summoner players also benefit from changes to whips. Whip stacking returns in a more controlled form, with accessories determining how the mechanic can be used, while several whip effects and interactions with minions have been adjusted.
Moon Lord and other bosses become more readable
The update is not only about player equipment. Several bosses and enemy attacks have been adjusted to improve readability and reduce situations where damage can feel difficult to anticipate.
The Moon Lord is one of the most notable examples. Several attacks now provide clearer warnings, while Phantasmal Eyes, Bolts, Spheres and Deathrays have received timing, targeting or hitbox changes. The Moon Lord and True Eye of Cthulhu also no longer deal contact damage in the same way as before.
The Empress of Light and Deerclops receive smaller adjustments as well, notably to better align damaging areas with their visible attacks.
Several quality-of-life improvements are easy to miss
Some of the most immediately noticeable changes are much smaller. Players can now skip the respawn timer when there are no major nearby threats, reducing unnecessary waiting after a death during ordinary exploration or building.
The patch also improves several item interactions, fixes numerous crashes and visual problems and resolves a variety of multiplayer, world-generation and gameplay bugs accumulated since the release of 1.4.5.
This is why 1.4.5.7 feels closer to a traditional content and balance update than a conventional emergency hotfix.
What does Terraria 1.4.5.7 change for dedicated servers?
For server administrators, the most immediate consideration is simply version compatibility. A Terraria client and dedicated server need to use compatible versions. If players update their PC client to 1.4.5.7 while the server remains on an older 1.4.5 build, they may encounter a version mismatch when attempting to connect.
Running a Terraria server? Back up your world before updating, make sure the dedicated server is running the same current version as your players, then restart it before reopening access to the community.
For vanilla communities, existing worlds should not need to be restarted simply because of this balance patch. Administrators using tModLoader, TShock or other server-side modifications should be more cautious and verify compatibility with the new game version before updating a production server.
VeryGames provides version management directly from its control panel, with automatic installation of the latest available Terraria server version by default and the ability to switch between supported versions when necessary.
Once 1.4.5 is stable, crossplay is the next major target
The importance of 1.4.5.7 extends beyond its patch notes. Re-Logic has repeatedly explained that completing the Bigger & Boulder post-launch work is a prerequisite for moving on to what comes next.
In its June State of the Game, the studio explicitly referred to "Crossplay and beyond" as the future once the final 1.4.5 fixes were complete. Earlier development updates also described crossplay as the next major destination after the 1.4.5 branch could finally be considered finished.
That does not mean Terraria crossplay has a release date yet. Re-Logic still has to complete the console and mobile rollout of 1.4.5.7 and deal with any critical problems discovered after launch. But the sequence is becoming increasingly clear: finish 1.4.5, stabilize every platform, then move forward with cross-platform multiplayer work.
A surprisingly massive final chapter for Bigger & Boulder
Terraria has never followed a particularly conventional definition of a "final update", and version 1.4.5.7 continues that tradition.
What started as post-launch balancing for Bigger & Boulder has grown into a sizeable update with dozens of new items, redesigned combat systems, boss changes and numerous quality-of-life improvements.
For players, there is plenty here to justify returning to an existing world and experimenting with previously overlooked builds. For multiplayer communities, the priority is simpler: make sure clients and servers remain on the same version as the rollout continues.
And once this phase is finally complete, Terraria's next major technical challenge may be even more important for multiplayer: bringing its players together through crossplay.
