Hytale Update 6 Releases on August 27 with Mod Browser, Hardcore Mode and New Server Tools
Hytale Update 6 now has an official release date: August 27, 2026. Hypixel Studios confirmed the date after several weeks of pre-release testing, bringing together one of the largest batches of new features since Early Access launched.
The update combines major additions for regular players, creators and server administrators. The highlights include an in-game mod browser, five different Hardcore rule sets, much larger creative selections, server crash recovery settings and new runtime controls for world generation and view distance.
Update 6 launches on August 27
Hytale's official account confirmed that Update 6 will release on August 27, 2026. Until now, all of these additions have been tested through the game's Pre-Release branch, which can be enabled from the launcher settings.
The stable release will therefore bundle the features and fixes accumulated across the different Update 6 pre-release parts rather than introducing a completely separate patch.
Important: the final stable changelog may still differ slightly from the current Pre-Release notes. Hypixel Studios has been updating the Update 6 page weekly while fixes and features are tested.
A complete Mod Browser directly inside Hytale
One of the biggest additions is the first version of Hytale's in-game Mod Browser. Players will no longer need to leave the game simply to discover or manage compatible mods.
From the main menu, the browser can display featured, popular and recently updated projects. Players can filter by category, search by name or description and open an individual mod page to view screenshots, download counts and supported game versions.
Installed mods are grouped inside a My Library section, where they can be updated or removed.
Discover
Browse featured, popular and recently updated mods directly from the game.
Install
Check compatibility, screenshots and information before installing a project.
Manage
Update or remove installed mods from a dedicated library screen.
For the Hytale ecosystem, this is an important step. Modding has been a central pillar of the project since Early Access began, and making discovery simpler should make community-created content much more accessible to ordinary players.
Five different ways to play Hardcore
Update 6 also expands Hardcore into a configurable world and server feature rather than a single permadeath option.
Five presets are currently available when creating a new world:
- Off: Hardcore is disabled;
- Permadeath: each player has one life;
- Three Strikes: each player starts with three lives;
- Nine Lives: the entire world shares one pool of lives;
- Soulbound: if one player dies, the run ends for everyone.
The number of lives available in Three Strikes and Nine Lives can also be changed when the world is created. Once Hardcore has been enabled for a world, the setting cannot currently be changed afterwards.
When a player exhausts their available lives, they do not simply respawn. They drop their possessions and switch into Spectator Mode.
For server communities: Soulbound and shared-life modes open the door to very different multiplayer challenges. A server can effectively turn an entire season or community event into one shared survival run.
Creative selections increase to 16 million blocks
Creators also receive a significant upgrade. Builder tools can now work with selections of up to 16 million blocks.
Hypixel Studios has introduced a more compact format for large builds, reducing file sizes while improving the speed of copy, cut, paste and save operations. Undo and redo operations also use less memory and now operate within a defined memory budget.
The paste preview system has been adjusted as well. Extremely large selections can now fall back to a simplified outline or solid preview instead of stalling while attempting to display every block.
16 million blocks
Much larger selections can be edited with Hytale's Builder Tools.
Smaller files
Large creations use a new compact save format.
Lower memory usage
Undo and redo operations now respect a memory budget.
Update 6 also adds important server administration features
Beyond the headline features, Update 6 contains several additions specifically useful to server operators.
Hardcore becomes a server configuration option
The server configuration gains a new setting. It can currently be set to:
Defaults.HardcoreMode = PerPlayer
Defaults.HardcoreMode = Global
Hypixel Studios has also introduced a PlayerLives component that can be read and modified by game modes and plugins. New commands allow authorised administrators to manage remaining lives.
Automatic world recovery after a crash
Servers can now define what should happen if a world thread crashes. A new CrashRecovery configuration block supports three policies:
- None: no automatic recovery action;
- Reload: attempt to reload the affected world;
- Shutdown: stop the server.
The Reload mode can also define a maximum number of attempts, a delay between attempts and a fallback behaviour if recovery repeatedly fails.
World generation concurrency can be changed at runtime
The new command below lets administrators override the number of worker threads assigned to WorldGen V2 without restarting the server:
Using a value of restores the server default. This runtime override is reset after a server restart.
A global maximum view radius of up to 512 chunks
Update 6 also adds a server console command. Administrators can query the current value, set a cap between 1 and 512 chunks, or reset it to the default value of 32 chunks.
maxviewradius <1-512>
maxviewradius reset
This gives server operators another lever to balance visibility, player experience and resource usage.
What should Hytale server admins expect on August 27?
For existing communities, Update 6 is important because it changes much more than gameplay. Server configuration, plugins, creative tools and mod distribution are all affected.
Before applying the stable update, administrators should therefore:
- back up their worlds and configuration files;
- check plugin and mod compatibility with Update 6;
- review the new Hardcore settings before creating a new Hardcore world;
- consider configuring a CrashRecovery policy;
- review world-generation concurrency and maximum view radius settings if the server has performance constraints.
The Mod Browser should make finding and installing community projects much easier for players, but server operators will still need to make sure that the content required by their world matches the stable Update 6 build.
One of Hytale's most important updates since Early Access
Update 6 is not built around one giant content expansion. Instead, it strengthens several of the systems that matter most to Hytale's long-term multiplayer ecosystem: modding, configurable worlds, server reliability and creative tools.
The combination of an integrated Mod Browser, configurable Hardcore modes and more advanced administration controls makes the August 27 release particularly relevant for community servers.
And because Hytale is still in Early Access, the update is another sign of how quickly Hypixel Studios is iterating on the systems that surround persistent multiplayer worlds.
