Hytale Chapter I launches October 12 with its first dungeon and boss
Hytale's first major chapter of Early Access content now has a release date. Chapter I launches on October 12, 2026, bringing the game's first handcrafted dungeon, its first multi-phase boss fight, a major Goblin storyline and new ways to explore and fight.
Hypixel Studios confirmed the date in the new official Chapter I teaser. The update represents an important step for Hytale after months focused largely on rebuilding the game's foundations, tools and technology following its Early Access launch.
Release date: Hytale Chapter I launches on October 12, 2026. Players using the Update 7 pre-release branch can already test part of its content before the full release.
Hytale gets its first handcrafted dungeon
Chapter I is designed to push Hytale further toward the RPG side of its sandbox formula. Hypixel Studios first detailed the update in its Chapter I preview, confirming that the game will receive its first fully handcrafted dungeon and its first proper multi-phase boss encounter.
That boss is the Gobliterator, part of a much larger expansion of the Goblin faction. Goblins will appear with different roles, personalities and combat behaviours, ranging from elite enemies to friendly characters. The dungeon itself also introduces encounter technology capable of managing phases, enemy waves and changes to the combat arena.
Goblin Breaches create repeatable adventures
Chapter I will not be limited to a single dungeon. Progress begins at the Forgotten Temple, a location that Hypixel intends to turn into a long-term progression hub as more Early Access chapters are released.
After beginning the chapter, players will be able to encounter Goblin Breaches. These temporary portals appear in the world and lead to unstable fragments of Orbis occupied by Goblins and an increasing Void presence.
These areas are regenerated when entered, allowing layouts and encounters to change between visits. Players can explore them for loot, fight enemies and complete activities while increasing Void pressure gradually forces them back into their main world. Hypixel plans to populate these areas with additional encounters including predators, assassins, enemy waves, treasure and environmental puzzles.
Runes and Goblin gadgets change combat and exploration
Another major addition is the Rune Ability system. Ability Runestones give characters new active abilities, while Modifier Runestones are designed to change how those abilities behave. The system is already being actively tested and adjusted through the Update 7 pre-release.
The current test branch includes abilities such as Fireball, Ground Slam, Wind Strike, Enrage and Imbue Poison, with newer additions including Chain Hook and Charged Shot. Hypixel has stressed that the system is still evolving, so the exact balance and selection available on October 12 may continue to change before release.
Exploration is expanding too. Chapter I's Goblin technology includes equipment such as a mechanical Hookshot, Rocket Boots, a Glider, Mining Drill and Spyglass. Rather than simply adding more weapons, these tools are intended to give players new ways to move through and interact with the world.
Chapter I is already being tested through Update 7
The distinction between Update 7 and Chapter I has now become much clearer. The official Update 7 pre-release notes describe Part 4, released on September 24, as the second wave of Chapter I content.
Players on that branch can already begin interacting with Chapter I content through the Forgotten Temple. At the same time, Hypixel continues to make changes beneath the surface that matter for multiplayer worlds, server administrators and plugin developers.
Why server administrators should watch this pre-release closely
Update 7 is not only testing Chapter I gameplay. Recent builds also contain server performance improvements, networking protocol changes, plugin API changes and a new world data format. This makes the pre-release particularly relevant to communities using custom plugins or maintaining persistent worlds.
For example, Part 2 improves server performance when ticking blocks, fluids and farmland. Part 4 fixes situations where teleports and respawns could be delayed while the server was generating terrain elsewhere.
There are also compatibility considerations. Some Update 7 networking changes require the client and server to use matching protocol builds. The new BlockSection world data introduced during the pre-release cannot be read by older server versions once a world has been converted.
Plugin developers are also receiving new APIs, restrictions and deprecations throughout the test cycle. Hypixel has not stated that every technical change currently present in the pre-release will reach October 12 completely unchanged, but server owners using plugins should clearly treat Chapter I as more than a simple content drop.
What server owners should prepare for October 12
For a standard Hytale world, Chapter I should mainly mean new adventures to experience with friends. For persistent community servers, however, the release deserves a little more preparation.
Chapter I therefore looks like an important milestone for both sides of Hytale. Players are finally getting the first structured chapter of the game's RPG adventure, while server operators are seeing the underlying multiplayer and modding platform continue to evolve alongside it. The full release arrives on October 12, 2026.
