Hytale Update 7 Pre-Release Improves Server Performance, Latency and Stability
Hytale Update 7 is already changing how multiplayer servers handle movement, chunks and network connections. Hypixel Studios launched the first pre-release build on September 3, 2026, only one week after Update 6 reached the stable branch.
The update introduces server-side optimizations, stronger protection against malformed network data and a much stricter limit for MaxViewRadius. It also increments the network protocol again, making compatibility checks important for plugin developers and server operators.
Important: Update 7 is currently available through Hytale's optional Pre-Release branch. It should be tested separately before being considered for a live community server, and its contents may continue to change over the coming weeks.
Less server work for collisions and block breaking
The first optimization targets entity collisions. Hytale has deduplicated the block lookups used by the collision system, calculations that run for every moving player and creature on the server.
This matters because even a small saving can be repeated many times on a busy world. A server simultaneously tracking players, animals and hostile NPCs may perform a large number of these checks, so removing redundant lookups should reduce unnecessary work during movement-heavy situations.
Block breaking has also been reworked on the server. The process no longer pauses to load chunks merely to determine which block was destroyed. Related plugin APIs are gradually moving from full chunk access toward chunk sections, and some neighbouring block updates now skip an unloaded chunk instead of pulling it into memory.
Hypixel Studios has not published benchmarks for these changes, so it is too early to quantify the gain. Their direction is nevertheless clear: reduce repeated block queries and avoid loading world data when an operation does not actually need it.
Multiplayer now prefers the most direct network route
Multiplayer sessions now automatically prefer a direct network path whenever one is available. The game should therefore avoid using an alternative route when that detour would unnecessarily increase ping.
This continues the networking work introduced during Update 6, when Hytale adopted ICE, STUN and TURN to improve connectivity for player-hosted worlds. As explained in our article about Hytale's new multiplayer connection system, a relay or virtual network path can be useful when direct communication is impossible, but it can also add latency when it is not needed.
Direct path available
Hytale prioritizes it to avoid an unnecessary networking detour.
Direct path unavailable
Alternative connection methods remain useful when the network requires them.
This change removes avoidable latency; it does not guarantee a lower ping for every player. Physical distance, Internet routing, congestion and the location of the host or dedicated server still determine the final result.
One faulty connection can no longer disrupt the entire server
Update 7 fixes a particularly serious fault where a single player's connection could break networking for everyone else on the server. Hypixel Studios does not detail the exact trigger, but isolating that failure should prevent one problematic client from interrupting every connected player.
The pre-release also rejects network structures nested more than 32 levels deep. This safeguard covers formatted messages, item categories, command trees and interaction chains, protecting both peers from abnormal or malicious data that previously had the potential to cause a crash.
Server shutdowns are cleaner as well. Active connections are now closed properly when the server stops, so players should be disconnected immediately instead of waiting for a timeout. Hytale also fixes a brief server stutter linked to a delayed teleport block removing itself from an area that had already been unloaded.
MaxViewRadius is now strictly limited to 32 chunks
The most visible configuration change concerns MaxViewRadius. Hytale Update 6 introduced a server console command that accepted values from 1 to 512 chunks, with 32 as the default. Update 7's first pre-release reduces the accepted range to 1 to 32 chunks.
Update 6 stable
The maxviewradius command accepted values between 1 and 512 chunks.
Update 7 Pre-Release
The accepted maximum is 32 chunks, both in configuration and through the command.
An out-of-range value in config.json no longer prevents the server from starting. Hytale clamps it in memory to the valid range, writes a warning to the log and continues booting.
Administrators should still correct the file manually: the invalid value remains unchanged in config.json, even though the running server uses the clamped value.
The new ceiling is a major reduction, but it creates a predictable limit for hosts and prevents extreme view-distance settings from becoming an accidental source of excessive memory, chunk-loading or processing demand.
The network protocol has been incremented again
Update 7 makes the UpdateLanguage.Language protocol field mandatory and increases the maximum length of language identifiers from 16 to 100 characters. The protocol version has been bumped to support that change.
Several other network-facing changes can affect custom code. The ShowEventTitle packet replaces its previous boolean with an event-title style, world gameplay configuration is now replicated through a new packet, and the new beam system also requires matching client support.
Unlike the broad protocol break that accompanied Update 6, Hypixel Studios does not state that every Update 7 plugin must be rebuilt. However, developers should compile and test against the new pre-release API, especially if a plugin creates packets manually or uses chunk-access methods that are now deprecated or removed.
Hytale also protects server data from launcher updates
A new startup check prevents server content from being written inside the launcher's installation directory, an area that may be patched or wiped during an update. The check covers the working directory as well as the paths supplied through --universe, --prefab-cache and --backup-dir.
If Hytale detects an unsafe path, the server refuses to start, explains how to move the data and exits with code 11. An --allow-install-dir override exists, but using it explicitly accepts the risk of data loss and should not be the normal configuration for a persistent server.
What Hytale server administrators should check
Because this is the first pre-release for Update 7, community administrators should treat it as a test build rather than an automatic production upgrade.
- Back up worlds, configuration files, plugins and server data before testing;
- Use a separate environment instead of replacing a live stable server immediately;
- Keep clients and the server on compatible builds after the protocol increment;
- Check MaxViewRadius and replace any value above 32 in config.json;
- Verify plugin compatibility, particularly for custom packets and deprecated chunk APIs;
- Store universes, caches and backups outside the launcher installation directory;
- Review startup warnings and test joins, shutdowns, block breaking and movement under realistic load.
Update 7 is already significant for persistent servers
The first Update 7 pre-release also begins rolling out Chapter 1 content, including the new Rune Ability system, reworked goblins and additional creative tools. For server communities, however, the less spectacular technical changes may have the greater long-term impact.
Fewer redundant collision lookups, less forced chunk loading, cleaner disconnects and better isolation of malformed traffic all target the foundations of a persistent multiplayer world. The 32-chunk view-radius ceiling also shows that Hypixel Studios is still defining sensible operational limits while Hytale remains in Early Access.
Update 7 will receive additional pre-release waves over the coming weeks. Its final stable contents may therefore differ, but Part 1 already makes server performance, network resilience and safer configuration clear priorities.
